At 10 o’clock on May 4th, 3 containers in the Qingdao former Bay Port container yard filled with strong oxidant suddenly caught fire. It was good that the fire got under control in 4 hours after alarm. The leeward air quality had no obvious changes except individual sites according to the report from local environmental protection departments. It was said that there was no casualties happened on spot. In order to give a safe containers yard, all of the dangerous chemicals like Monochloroacetic acid were requested not to load at the Qingdao container yard any more this period. According to conservative estimates, the price of the Chloroacetic Acid in China shall be raised by $20 per MT at least compared to the prices in the end of Apr.2013. Hope the shipping regulations could be held back early.
